King Salmon - King Salmon Fishing - Salmon Fishing Alaska

A Little about your Kenai River Guide

I grew up on the Mad River in Northern California in the 1960's a small town named Blue Lake. My Dads work took us up into Oregon in 1965 to Medford , where I grew up Salmon Fishing on the upper Rogue River. I worked nights in High School at a plywood mill to get my first boat and truck, and worked with some of the greatest fishermen of the time, they took me under their wing and taught me the art of bouncing bait, this was a new thing then. My long time school partner George E. Scott (Whip) who really hooked me on plug fishing in the early seventy's. That's were I met Willie from Alumaweld Boats, now Willie Boats, Willie took me under his wing on more than one occasion and showed me the in and out's of rowing that special drift boat or raft down the canyon, Willie is rowing in the skybox seats now, but I'll never forget the good times hunting, and those special fishing trips, hats off to you Willis.

My work as a young Piping Designer took me to Alaska where I ended up at Prudhoe Bay, with two weeks a month off to explore the Alaska King Salmon Rivers, I found the Kenai River, in 1981 and have fished there every summer since with my partner and best friend Mike Kelly (the Fish Reaper) also a veteran of this pristine water of 26 yrs. what a great fisherman, and what a great piece of water we fish together, I think it is the best Alaska King Salmon Fishing available. Every year we treat our clients to this the finest Alaska King Salmon Fishing, we use only the finest fishing boats in the business the Willie Boat Sleds, along with the best tackle available from Pure Fishing, G. Loomis and Lure Jensen in the fleet, and then some. Over the years we as Kenai River Guides have learned the in and out's of this fishery and what it has to offer, we'll catch plenty of fish in the 50# to 60# King Salmon every year, with a few even bigger, always waiting for the 100# fish to our bait

I am State license in Oregon and Alaska, I have Federal and State license in both states, I also hold a 100 ton near Coastal USCG license. How much do I fish? try full time for Kings (Chinook) Salmon  9 months out of the year and 3 months for Summer & Winter Steelhead. I am offering you a opportunity to let me show you my skills right down to calling the taxidermist!, cant beat a deal like that!  I'm looking forward seeing you all this summer in Alaska  "the Land of the Midnight Sun", you'll be glad you did.  I'll help you with any Alaska Information, Alaska Travel Information, and or  Alaska Lodging, that you might need, remember there's salmon fishing, and then there is salmon fishing, and then there's fishing with the Boss. Because it's been away of life in our family for over 100 years

Ron, Guy and I would like to thank you for the wonderful experience on our Kenai fishing trip in Alaska.  I would recommend your service to anyone but it is particularly appealing for a fishing wife.  Guy has dragged me to quite a few fish camps that I was not too happy about; however, the lodge you recommended was rustic, clean and comfortable. The personnel were very nice and knowledgeable about the fishing and the area.  I would also like to thank you for my experience on the boat. You instructed me on how to fish properly in your area and you were so pleasant providing the information. Sometimes fishing guides want things done their way and are impatient if you fail to perform.  You were positively encouraging during the whole trip. And it didn't hurt that I caught the first king salmon either!  Once again, thanks and I appreciate you. We hope to fish you in Oregon some day!                          Guy & Bev Morrison

Boss, We really enjoyed the fishing trip up to Alaska. It was the first time for the five of us , and I think it went excellent, 6 Salmons for 5 people not bad for a 3 days trip. The Boss really delivered. I still remember the adrenaline running in my blood when I caught my first King Salmon. We are planning to do it again next year. And by the way the best place for a King Salmon is over the grill. We have had several grilling dinners and had enjoyed the Salmon, the company and sharing again the emotions of this exciting fishing trip to Alaska. PD I saw our picture in your web site, it looks great!   Gerardo Zambrano ,  Monterrey, Mexico

Ron has been doing guided trips for me in Alaska, Washington and Oregon for the last 14 years. He is very professional, with clients and with his fishing techniques. he can give you the fishing trip your looking for.              Mike Kelly - Fish Reaper Guides Asotin Washington:

My family, my friends and I, have been fishing with Ron Buntrock, Fishboss Guide Service, for Salmon, Steelhead, Rainbow and Dolly Varden trout since 1994. We have fished rivers in California, Oregon and Alaska. The Kenai, Chetco, Rogue, Smith, Elk, Sixes and Coquille, from both drift and power boats, with great success. We have several (11), Alaska Kings mounted on the walls that range from 65 to 80 lbs, and many pounds of fish to enjoy eating. And we have the pictures to prove it. It is rare in my mind to find a guide that combines superb equipment, great river, water, and fish knowledge, along with communication skills, attention to safety, and a chefs ability for an up-river breakfast - all in one package. I highly recommend a trip with Fishboss for both beginning and experienced fisherman. Doug Noren - Santa Rosa, California

Hey Ron, We just saw the posting of our family on your site!  We had a great time with you and will  fish with you again if we make it back to Alaska!  We have the pictures on our refrigerator and are still eating the salmon and loving it!   Your trip is great and we had a good time, despite the rain!   Thanks for helping us come home with 3 out of 4 especially on a day when the fish cleaners said there weren't very many fish coming in! We are convinced it was all about the guide!    Hope you have a great fall and winter season.
Thanks again, The Pursleys, Ft. Worth, Texas

We have fished with Ron “The Fishboss” for several years and never cease to enjoy the outing. Ron has a congenial and convivial approach to the process of guiding and not only is very professional in his pursuit of the great spring Chinook but has a marvelous ability to track them down and let us be successful…almost all the time. On one memorable (and difficult day for the Boss) we were the only successful anglers in the lower river. Now that is a testimonial!   Tom and Mary Glatte, Medford , Oregon

I have fished with many different Steelhead Guides in the Northwest. Ron Buntrock (The Boss) is by far my favorite. Ron can read water like no guide I have ever been with. He really understands the traveling habits of the Steelhead as the move up river to there spawning destinations. Not only did we catch a lot of big fish he cooked us breakfast on his state of the art jet boat. I plan to come back in the fall and do grand slam with him on Salmon and Steelhead. Tim Torgerson - Montana

We want to thank you for three great fishing days on the Rouge River. We know how temperamental the salmon can be, but your knowledge and willingness to make changes paid off. Since we did not know any guides on the Rouge, I went to the internet and pulled up several websites for fishing guides. I emailed each of the guides. You were the first to respond back to me and based on your positive comments and informative website, we chose you as our guide. We look forward to fishing with you in the future, either on the Rogue River or in Alaska. Keep up the great work and thank you again for making our trip a memorable one. Jan and Howard Arnold  Vacaville, California

I have fished with Ron, ( Fishboss ), for many years.  His knowledge and expertise are obvious just by the numbers of fish he puts his clients on.  Although I've only fished with Ron on Southern Oregon rivers, I'm sure his catch numbers are high regardless of where he fishes. One example I will mention is a 2 day trip on the Sixes River in Dec. 2006.  My buddy and I consistently hooked salmon when no one else was even getting a bite.  I do a lot of fishing on my own and it's my habit to watch what other boats are doing and the bait they use.  It appeared all the other boats in that stretch of river were doing the same thing as Ron, except for hooking fish.  Note to self, watch what Ron does from now on, forget all the other guys. Mitch Gibson - Medford, OR

My fishing partner Ike Thomas and I have fished with Ron "the Fishboss" for five years both Spring and fall runs of Salmon in the lower Rouge River out of Gold Beach. Ron has always given us a full days of fishing, and lots & lots of entertainment. We have caught are fair share of Salmon and have the photo's to prove it. Ron  keeps his boat and fishing gear clean and in top shape. We like the Spring fishing best because of great breakfast that Ron prepares on board while at anchor. We try to fish for 3 days each time we fish with Ron. We feel it's well worth the 1175 miles road trip each way. Pat Pidgeon -  Buhl Idaho

I am coming out in mid May.  I want to do another fishing trip and hope my brother-in-law will charter your service.  I still am talking about the fish caught 2 years ago and see you have my photo on your website.  Thanks again for your professional service. Jerry & Camie Harriman- Rochester, NH.

Thanks, Ron........we appreciate getting the picture of Jacks Spring Salmon.......we just arrived home.  We stopped for the night on Monday after leaving Gold Beach, at Newport, then on to Spokane on Tuesday.  We spent last night at Jack's house,  and Bill and I just got home to Coulee Dam (Electric City) about an hour ago.  We are tired puppies, but had a wonderful time, even though the fish were scarce.........hope you have big success with the remainder of the year.......Bill and Doris Schieber - Electric City, WA
